Killer Women promo

KillerWomenBased (loosely, according to some reports) on the Argentinian series Mujeres Asesinas, the series Killer Women follows the life of Molly Parker, a recently divorced woman, former beauty queen, and a daughter of a sheriff. She rises to the top ranks of one of the most elite and male-dominant law enforcement establishments, the Texas Rangers. Parker is played by Tricia Helfer, best know for playing Cylon “Number 6” in the reworked version of Battlestar Galactica. The executive producers include Sofia Vergara, who was one of the (not many) better things about Machete Kills, and Martin Campbell, the director of Goldeneye.

It’s an eight-week series, apparently designed as a mid-season replacement for the cancelled Lucky 7. One review said of the new show, that it will not “wear anyone out with ruminations on America’s historic notion of gender-appropriate employment. As the title declares with pride, the show has a lot in common with old-style drive-in second features at drive-ins.” Sounds perfectly acceptable to me: we’ve set the DVR. Killer Women airs on ABC at 10pm on Tuesday night. Here’s the promo.

The Treasure Of Lake Kaban trailer

russianlaraWhy, yes – that is a shameless Russian rip-off of Lara Croft that we see. My attention was drawn to this release from May, by a colleague from my Manga Mania days, Jonathan Clements, who bumped into it as a Russian in-flight movie. He says:

The tagline shrugs: “Nyet vremeni obyasnyat” (There’s no time to explain). And apparently there isn’t, as a frustrated army doctor-turned-archaeologist, a nutjob who thinks he’s an alien, and a Russian navy conscript trying to find enough cash to buy out his commission, all converge on the small republic, where local colour amounts to a whole bunch of relics of Russian’s Mongol marchland – dances, cossacks, daggers, and most memorably in the gene pool, if the smouldering Elvira Ibragimova (that’s her in the shorts) is anything to go by.

While apparently playing more for comedy than anything else, it certainly can’t be much worse than The Cradle of Life. Certainly, the trailer below seems to suggest it’s every bit Lara’s equal in terms of production values.

Sucker Punch animations

It’s amazing what you find randomly. I was actually looking for a replacement of the Sucker Punch trailer, as the one I had been using was no longer available, and stumbled across this fabulous animation by Ben Hibon, inspired by the movie. It’s actually a set of four pieces – one for each segment of the film, but combined here into one film – created in association with Zack Snyder, and effectively, filling in the background for some of the “victims” of the carnage which unfolds in the main feature. It’s very cool, and makes me kinda wish the film has been successful enough to merit further exploration of the universe.

JoBlo Cat Fights

JoBlo put together a collection of their favorite movie “cat fights”. Not quite sure I’d label all of them as that, but can’t argue with a lot of the choices!

Chicks who love guns

With Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained opening last week, seems appropriate to go back to his 1997 film Jackie Brown, starring GWG icon, Pam Grier, and give you the full promo video for the fake Chicks Who Love Guns video. Though it’s really not too far from certain offerings out there!

Delia’s Deadly Dozen

“The year is 2013 in a Zombie Post-Apocalyptic Earth…Join Deadly Delia’s Dozen–a group of sexy zombie slayers who are destined to lay everyone of those zombie bastards to rest–permanently!” They’ve just started their Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a trailer they can use to pitch the concept to distributors and producers. Needless to say, we are very much down with this concept. :)
